Manchester United Women were denied their first Women’s Super League victory of the season by a dramatic 94th-minute Arsenal equaliser at Emirates Stadium.
Julia Zigiotti punished an Arsenal defensive mistake to put Eva Olid’s side ahead midway through the second half.
United then defended with enormous discipline and looked set to claim a statement away win after losing their opening two league matches.
But Smilla Holmberg converted Leah Williamson’s delivery deep into stoppage time to rescue a 1-1 draw for Arsenal.

Zigiotti punishes Arsenal mistake
United arrived in north London under pressure after defeats in their opening two WSL fixtures, including last weekend’s 5-0 loss to Chelsea.
Olid responded by reshaping her side, with Simi Awujo coming into the starting XI and Ella Toone dropping to the bench.

Holmberg breaks United hearts late on
Olid’s side appeared to have done enough.
United survived wave after wave of Arsenal pressure and entered stoppage time still protecting their one-goal advantage.
The breakthrough finally came in the 94th minute.
Williamson clipped the ball towards the far post and Holmberg arrived to convert from close range.
It was a brutal ending for United after coming so close to a major victory.

United did at least achieve that.
First WSL point gives Olid something to build on
The late equaliser will hurt because United were seconds away from three points.
But the broader performance represents clear progress.
Olid’s side defended with far greater discipline, competed throughout and threatened Arsenal when opportunities appeared.
After opening the campaign with consecutive defeats, United finally have their first WSL point.
The next challenge is turning that improved structure into a first victory.
For now, the result at Emirates Stadium should provide Olid with much-needed encouragement despite the painful finish.
