Fulham boss Alvaro Arbeloa was frustrated after his side drew with Manchester United, believing they came close to securing their first Premier League win of the season.
Fulham had taken control for long spells and looked set to hold on, but Manchester United found a late equaliser to leave Alvaro Arbeloa feeling his side had been unfortunate.
“We were so close. So, so close. We were a little bit unlucky again. We knew it would be difficult against this big team.”
The Fulham manager also admitted his side had been aware of the controversy surrounding United’s previous game against Manchester City and felt that affected how he viewed the officiating.
Arbeloa unhappy with refereeing decisions
“Also we knew what happened last week. We have seen what the referees have been doing in all the matches so it was a difficult game. And we were unlucky,” Arbeloa said while talking to Sky Sports.
Arbeloa was particularly annoyed by a decision he believed went against Fulham shortly before United’s equaliser. He pointed to a challenge involving Harry Maguire and argued that his side were not getting the same decisions.
“All fouls for them. You can see before they scored, the foul against Maguire, it’s a guy who is 100 kilos.”
The Spaniard went further, suggesting Fulham had struggled to get a fair share of the decisions throughout the match.
“Every decision was for them and I knew after the game against Man City that they [would not] let Manchester United lose here.”
Arbeloa’ side had been seconds away from securing a result against United, only for that opportunity to disappear late on.
“We deserved a little bit more.”
