Manchester United have confirmed that Benjamin Sesko has withdrawn from the Slovenia squad ahead of their upcoming UEFA Nations League matches.
Sesko also missed Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Fulham. Head coach Michael Carrick had previously revealed that the striker ‘felt a little bit of pain‘ after the Carabao Cup defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion.
The 23-year-old will now be assessed to determine the extent of his injury and how long he will be sidelined.
Sesko has had a slow start to the season, starting just one game — the Carabao defeat to Brighton. He has scored just one goal across all competitions.
The Slovenia international missed most of pre-season and that may have contributed to his form.
Sesko could have had the opportunity to build up his match fitness and improve his form with Slovenia if he had been fit.
The United forward has not made any international appearance since October 2025. He has 16 goals in 45 caps, ranking fourth in Slovenia’s all-time top-scorers list.
Sesko has to overcome his fitness concerns to secure a starting spot at Man United and help the club achieve their ambitions for the season.
Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford and Kobbie Mainoo have also withdrawn from the England squad due to injuries.
Rashford suffered a hip problem against Fulham, but the nature of Mainoo’s injury has yet to be confirmed.
Goalkeeper Karl Darlow will also not be involved with Wales after withdrawing from their squad to face Portugal, Denmark and Norway.
Carrick will be hoping to have a fit squad after the three-week international break to arrest United’s slow start to the campaign.
The Mancunian giants’ next competitive game is their Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur on October 10 at Old Trafford.
