The side spent around £150 million on Youri Tielemans, Carlos Baleba, Andrey Santos, and Karl Darlow, although once sales and other incomings are factored in, this figure is closer to £90 million.
There was a lot of talk about a potential move for left-back Lewis Hall from Newcastle, with Roundtable reporting that United held talks with the Magpies in August, but nothing materialised.
Hall has since signed a new five-year contract with his current club and has become a key part of Matthias Jaissle's squad since the latter took over from Eddie Howe in the summer.
Hall speaks out on United transfer
The rumours between United and Hall persisted throughout the window, although reports consistently stated that, for any deal to be struck, United would have to cough up around £70 million and Hall would have to push for the move.
While the England international was known to be unhappy under Howe's management, Jaissle's appointment completely changed his stance at the club.
Speaking to The Gazette, Hall has opened up on the United rumours across the summer and why he decided to sign a new contract instead of push for a move.
“No, honestly, it didn't,” the 22-year-old said when asked if the United talk impacted him.
“I guess whenever you're linked with another team, you know that you're doing something right. I guess it's just a credit to your own performance and how you are as a player, how you are as a person. So I took that as a positive.
“At the same time, I knew how much I loved playing here, and since the manager came in, I knew the ambitions and what we wanted to achieve. After not many conversations, not many training sessions, I knew that the manager was going to be really good for this club.
“And I knew that as a team, bringing in new players and increasing the squad was really important. So it (the contract) was a no-brainer to sign.”

Hall feels his long-term future is at Newcastle
Having come through Chelsea's Academy, Hall is no stranger to how top clubs operate, with his experience so far as a player cited as a reason he could one day play for the biggest clubs in world football.
However, speaking further, the player himself feels he may end up staying in the north easy for a lot longer than anyone would expect.
When asked about remaining at Newcastle in the long term amid his new five-year deal, he feels pretty sure that he will remain at the club for a long period of time, rather than head off to United or anywhere else next summer.
“Yeah, I think so,” Hall said about staying at Newcastle long-term. “When you're at a team, you don't think too far into the future. Obviously, I'm really grateful for the contract that I received and the chance that I've been given from the board, the manager and everything like that.
“But yeah, I'm just taking it game by game at a time (and) trying to do the best I can for this club. We've got ambitions and, as long as we achieve these ambitions and achieve what we want to achieve, I'm sure I'll be here for a long time.”
