Lewis Hall rebuffed transfer interest from Manchester United to stay at Newcastle in the summer.

Newcastle defender Lewis Hall has revealed it was a 'no-brainer' to commit to a new contract at St James' Park following discussions with incoming head coach Matthias Jaissle, but his long-term future will be decided on whether the club's ambitions are realised. Hall put pen to paper on fresh terms with Newcastle earlier this month, extending his current arrangement with the Magpies through to the summer of 2031, and has made an impressive start to the campaign.
Confirmation of his new deal ended months of conjecture regarding a potential switch to Manchester United, with the Red Devils repeatedly linked with a swoop for the ex-Chelsea left-back throughout the summer window. However, following conversations with Jaissle, Hall maintains the choice to secure his future at Newcastle was straightforward, while acknowledging the 'positive' nature of interest from a club of Manchester United's stature.

"No, honestly, it didn't," Hall told Chronicle Live when asked if the heightened summer speculation ever made the decision challenging. "I guess whenever you're linked to another team, you know that you're doing something right. I guess it's just a credit to your own performances and how you are as a player, how you are as a person.
"I took that as a positive, but at the same time, I knew how much I love playing here and I knew that since the manager came in, I knew the ambitions and what we wanted to achieve.
"After not many conversations, not many training sessions, I knew that the manager was going to be really good for this club and I knew that as a team, bringing in new players and improving the squad was really important and as soon as we did that, it was a no-brainer really to sign."

The 22-year-old has recently secured a recall to the England squad and found the net in Saturday's 2-1 victory over Hull City. It's evident he's flourishing under Jaissle, with their already positive rapport enabling him to excel.

"He's a top guy. He's been so good to me," Hall added. "He gives me the licence to express myself as long as I do the defensive work and do the running that's required for this position, which is quite a lot of work. But I'm happy to do it as long as it benefits the team. He's been a positive for everyone who's come in so far."
Despite Hall's fresh contract, transfer speculation will likely continue to surround one of England's brightest young prospects beyond this campaign.
However, when asked whether signing a new deal at Newcastle reflects his long-term commitment to the club, Hall acknowledged that, provided his personal aspirations align with the club's direction, he'll be 'here for a long time'.
"I think so," Hall replied. "I think when you're at a team you don't think too far into the future. Obviously, I'm really grateful for the contract that I've received and the trust that I've been given from the board and from the manager and everything like that.
"But I'm just taking it game by game, just trying to do the best I can for this club. We've got ambitions and as long as we achieve these ambitions and achieve what we want to achieve, I'm sure I'll be here for a long time."
