Benjamin Sesko has released a statement on social media after he was blocked from joining the Slovenia squad for their upcoming fixtures. It marks the fourth international camp Sesko has missed since arriving at Manchester United last summer. His repeated absences have caused friction between the Red Devils and the striker's national side over the past year.
Sesko missed United's draw with Fulham over the weekend after feeling soreness in his shin following the Carabao Cup defeat to Brighton. He was later blocked from flying to Slovenia to have the problem assessed, with the 23-year-old instead staying in England to work with United's medical team during the international break.
He has since issued a statement on Instagram, admitting that he is disappointed about missing Slovenia's upcoming Nations League matches against Scotland (twice), North Macedonia and Switzerland.
"I am very sorry that I will have to miss the national team's upcoming matches," wrote Sesko. "I have always played for Slovenia, and always will, with heart and pride.
"Right now, the most important thing is to focus fully on my recovery. I am already working on getting back on the pitch as soon as possible to help both the national team and my club once again.
"I believe in our guys, and I am convinced that this time, too, they will display the team spirit that has always defined us. I can't wait to wear the national team jersey again; until then, I will be Slovenia's biggest fan. Go Slovenia!"
Earlier this month, Sesko claimed that he felt physically "perfect" but has since suffered a recurrence of his shin injury.

He was absent for last year's November internationals because of a knee problem before skipping the March fixtures to rest his shin.
Sesko was also ruled out of Slovenia's summer friendlies after aggravating his shin when he was shoved off the Old Trafford pitch during United's home win over Liverpool in May.
It's not yet clear if he will be available to play in United's next Premier League game against Tottenham after the extended international break.
Quizzed on Sesko's fitness, Carrick said: "We’re not sure with Ben yet. He felt a bit of pain after the game, we’re assessing him.
"At the moment, he definitely wasn’t ready for today, so I haven’t really got any more news to give you at this point. We’ll have to see what that brings."
