Benjamin Sesko insists he is working hard to get back on the pitch for Manchester United after withdrawing from the Slovenia squad on Monday. The forward featured last Wednesday in the Carabao Cup collapse against Brighton but did not travel to London on Saturday to face Fulham.
Explaining his absence, Michael Carrick said that Sesko had felt an issue with his shin and would be assessed. On Monday evening, United confirmed the forward had withdrawn from his national team squad for the upcoming three-week international break. The Reds added: "Benjamin will undergo tests this week before defining his individual recovery plan."
On Tuesday morning, Sesko released a statement on Instagram in Slovenian. Translated, the message read: "I am very sorry that I will have to miss the national team's upcoming matches. I have always played for Slovenia - and always will - with heart and pride.
"Right now, the most important thing is to focus fully on my recovery. I am already working on getting back on the pitch as soon as possible to help both the national team and my club once again.
"I believe in our guys, and I am certain that this time, too, they will display the team spirit that has always defined us. I can't wait to wear the national team jersey again; until then, I will be Slovenia's biggest supporter. Go Slovenia."
Sesko will be aiming to be back for United after the international break. The Reds are next in action on October 10 when they host Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford.
In his United absence, Sesko has been replaced by Matheus Cunha in a false nine role. Bryan Mbeumo also led the line during pre-season and could be an option for Carrick.
