Harry Maguire admits Manchester United need to be more clinical after being held to a 1-1 draw by Fulham at Craven Cottage.
Manchester United created several chances during the game, particularly in the first half, but were unable to make the most of their opportunities. Maguire believes those moments were crucial in a tight Premier League contest.
“We have got to take our chances and take our moments,” the defender said, as quoted by Man Utd official site. “When we had those moments in that first half, they are big moments in the Premier League and you have really got to take them.”
Harry Maguire also felt United’s performance dipped at the beginning of the second half, although Fulham did not create many clear chances. He described the goal conceded as unfortunate.
The defender was encouraged by United’s response after the break, with the Reds pushing Fulham back and applying sustained pressure as they searched for a winner.
“Our reaction was so much better and more positive than it was last week,” Maguire said. “The boys showed great spirit and great reaction.”
United ultimately had to settle for a point, but Maguire believes the team can take positives into the international break. He also urged the squad to ignore outside noise and focus on improving.
“Last week was an absolutely ridiculous goal that changed the whole complex of the game,” he said, while pointing to another long-range goal conceded the previous week.
Maguire accepts there are fine margins in football, but insists United will work hard when they return.
