Manchester United are considering a move for Borussia Dortmund striker Serhou Guirassy.
Serhou Guirassy has emerged as a possible January target for Manchester United, amid concerns over Benjamin Sesko’s fitness. Sesko missed United’s last game with injury and has also been forced to pull out of Slovenia’s international fixtures.
We felt it was crystal clear during the summer that United needed to sign another striker.
According to Teamtalk, United are now paying attention to Dortmund forward Serhou Guirassy. This is a tempting move but it could prove to be an expensive and inefficient one for United to do.

Serhou Guirassy’s goal record
Serhou Guirassy signed for Borussia Dortmund from Stuttgart in January 2024, and he made an instant impact for the club. He has scored 64 goals in 102 games.
This season he has scored four goals in six games. Last season he struck 22 goals in all competitions.
Serhou Guirassy’s release clause
When Dortmund signed Serhou Guirassy by paying his £15 million release clause. United had also been linked at the time, but did not pursue his signature.
Guirassy has a release clause in his current Dortmund contract, but it won’t actually help United’s chase for his signature.
He had a clause of £35 million in the summer that was active for a few weeks. Manchester United were listed as one of the clubs eligible to activate it. They chose not to. Fenerbahce were the only team to make an approach, and Guirassy did not want to make the move.
Guirassy is under contract with Dortmund until 2028. It is unclear if his release clause would be active again in summer 2027, and for how much.
Guirassy age makes him a divisive choice
Serhou Guirassy is 30-years-old which makes him a divisive option for United. There would be little to no resale value if a deal is struck.
This makes him a less attractive target for Ineos, who have demonstrated they would rather invest in younger talent. If the cost to sign Guirassy is around £30-40 million or even higher, then it is even more unlikely.
You also have to consider the tough transition players have found it from transferring from Bundesliga sides to the top end of the Premier League.
There is certainly a case that United require some experience in attack, but the deal and the player always needs to be right.
