Newcastle United defender Lewis Hall has signed a new contract until 2031. It closes the door on the Lewis Hall Manchester United transfer talk that surrounded him over the summer.
Hall was strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford before United turned elsewhere. He says the interest from a club of United’s size felt like a mark of respect. He views it as proof that his form at left back had been noticed. Even so, he never seriously considered leaving St James’ Park.

Hall Explains Newcastle Extension and Jaissle Impact
Hall’s future was settled earlier this month. He agreed a long term deal running to 2031, shortly after Matthias Jaissle took over as Newcastle’s new manager. The Magpies have reshaped their squad since selling Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes over the summer. Hall says the rebuilding project under Jaissle convinced him to commit his future to the club.
Hall explained his thinking in full, speaking to the Manchester Evening News.
“No, honestly, it didn’t. I guess whenever you’re linked to another team, you know that you’re doing something right. I guess it’s just a credit to your own performances and how you are as a player, how you are as a person.
“I took that as a positive, but at the same time, I knew how much I love playing here and I knew that since the manager came in, I knew the ambitions and what we wanted to achieve.
“After not many conversations, not many training sessions, I knew that the manager was going to be really good for this club and I knew that as a team, bringing in new players and improving the squad was really important and as soon as we did that, it was a no-brainer really to sign.”
Hall has already shown what that momentum looks like on the pitch. He scored in Newcastle’s 2-1 win over Hull City. The result underlined the progress Jaissle wants to build even after those key departures. It leaves the Lewis Hall Manchester United transfer question firmly answered by the player himself.
Michael Carrick’s Left-Back Options at Old Trafford
Manchester United, meanwhile, are still working out their own left back picture under Michael Carrick. Luke Shaw returned to the starting line up for the draw against Fulham. The appearance put him back at the centre of United’s plans at left back.
Shaw was replaced by Patrick Dorgu in the second half. The substitution showed Carrick is still weighing up his best option rather than settling on one.
