Manchester United have revealed the full financial figures behind their decision to sack Ruben Amorim.

Manchester United have revealed that it cost them around £8million to sack Ruben Amorim and his backroom team. Amorim was dismissed by United in January following merely 14 months at the helm. The Red Devils were facing a substantial £16.7m compensation package to cover Amorim's exit and that of his coaching staff.
But the Portuguese manager's contract included provisions whereby this sum would be decreased should he secure another job. Amorim's subsequent appointment at AC Milan over the summer spared United from paying additional compensation, with the full cost of his dismissal now disclosed in the club's year-end financial statements, which were released on Wednesday.

United have revealed that exceptional items for the year reached £8.2m, overwhelmingly attributed to Amorim's sacking and settlement payments for coaches Carlos Fernandes, Adelio Candido, Emanuel Ferro and Jorge Vital.
A minor proportion of the exceptional item expenditure relates to concluding costs associated with the club's restructuring initiatives, as well as supplementary contributions United expects to pay towards pension arrangements.
Upon announcing their financial results for the previous year, United's exceptional items totalled £36.6m, primarily stemming from Erik ten Hag's dismissal and the departures of several members of his coaching staff.
Amorim was dismissed following escalating friction with the United hierarchy. He openly challenged the club's leadership when addressing journalists after the Leeds fixture at Elland Road, implying that others should focus on their own responsibilities.

In Premier League competition, Amorim recorded the poorest victory rate (32 per cent), the worst goals conceded per match average (1.53) and the lowest proportion of clean sheets (15 per cent) of any United manager throughout the club's history.
Omar Berrada nonetheless offered praise for Amorim immediately following his sacking, stating: "Ruben Amorim deserves a lot of credit. In a very difficult season he helped raise standards in the dressing room. I am sure he will go on to be a successful coach."
Amorim looked back on his failed United spell during the summer, remarking: "The first thing is that it doesn't matter anymore. That is the feeling. There's a history, then something happens, the context changes, and you focus on the next challenge.
"I learned a lot. It would be hard to point to one thing, but the important thing that I clearly know is that I made a lot of mistakes.
"When you do this kind of reflection, and you understand that it was not just their fault, but also my fault, I think you can be a better coach and a better man."
