Ruben Amorim's appointment as AC Milan boss saved Manchester United £8.5million in severance pay.
The Red Devils had looked set to lose £16.7million as a result of sacking the Portuguese in their third-quarter financial results in May.

Amorim was dismissed in January following 14 months in charge at Old Trafford.
United were due to pay him and his staff until the conclusion of his contract in June 2027.

However, Amorim was subsequently appointed by Milan in the summer.
The release of United's end of year financial results on Wednesday have now revealed how much the club saved as a result.
In total, £8.2million was paid out in 'exceptional items', largely consisting of payments to Amorim and his backroom team.
Corporate restructuring fees were also included in this figure.
Overall, United saved £8.5million from their previous forecast due to Amorim's return to the dugout.
Clubs generally do not pay out a manager's full remaining salary in one lump sum when they are sacked.

Instead, they will continue to receive their weekly wage until their contract expires or they land a new job.
In Amorim's case, his United deal would not have run out until the end of the current campaign.

The Red Devils were able to avoid a repeat of the previous debacle involving Erik ten Hag thanks to Milan's appointment.
Ten Hag was dismissed in October 2024, just three months after the club triggered a one-year extension in his contract through to 2026.
The Dutchman then did not land a new managerial role until the following summer when he took over as Bayer Leverkusen boss.

Having left United at the start of the year, Amorim has enjoyed a strong start at the San Siro.
His side are currently unbeaten after five matches in Serie A, winning three of those.
Their 3-0 home win over Lecce on Sunday leaves Milan fifth in the table ahead of their return following the international break.

Amorim is yet to lose a match in Serie A since taking charge of Milan this summer
However, they did suffer a setback in their opening Europa League fixture last week.
Milan were beaten 2-0 at home by Benfica as they failed to kickstart their league phase campaign.
