The figure that Manchester United agreed to pay Ruben Amorim and his staff to sack them has been revealed, as well as AC Milan’s helping hand.
Amorim was sacked last season by United after just 14 months at the club. It was a turbulent tenure which followed his arrival from Sporting CP during the 2024-25 campaign, and he ended up at Milan after taking a few months off.

Milan halve Man Utd’s Amorim cost
According to the Manchester Evening News, United have actually confirmed the cost of sacking Amorim as their most recent financial accounts were published. In the ‘exceptional costs’ column there is £8.2m (€9.5m), primarily comprising costs for sacking Amorim and his collaborators.
The report adds that the Red Devils actually faced an even bigger compensation bill of £16.7m (€19.4m) as a pay-out for Amorim and co., but his deal also included the stipulation that it would be reduced if he landed a new job.
Sure enough, the Rossoneri chose to go for the former Benfica midfielder which saved United from paying out the full compensation and reduced it to £8.2m. Pay-offs for coaches Carlos Fernandes, Adelio Candido, Emanuel Ferro and Jorge Vital are included in this figure.

MEN add: “In the Premier League, Amorim had the worst win ratio (32 per cent), the worst goals conceded per game ratio (1.53) and the lowest clean sheet ratio (15 per cent) of any United manager in history.”
Amorim reflected on his United tenure over the summer, saying: “The first thing is that it doesn’t matter anymore. That is the feeling. There’s a history, then something happens, the context changes, and you focus on the next challenge.
“I learned a lot. It would be hard to point to one thing, but the important thing that I clearly know is that I made a lot of mistakes. When you do this kind of reflection, and you understand that it was not just their fault, but also my fault, I think you can be a better coach and a better man.”
He has put some of these lessons into practice, showing a recent tactical flexibility that many accused him of not having, though he has still retained quite a curious style of dealing with the media at times.
