Manchester United have made an enquiry about River Plate goalkeeper Santiago Beltran, according to ESPN Argentina.
The Red Devils signed a new goalkeeper in Karl Darlow on a free transfer this summer, and he recently made his debut against Brighton & Hove Albion in the Carabao Cup third round.
Despite this, the club continue to be linked with shot-stoppers, and ESPN Argentina claim that the club have initiated contact with River Plate over a possible deal for highly rated Beltran.
Inter Milan are also admirers of the 21-year-old whose contract expires in December next year. River Plate are in talks over a renewal, but he could still move to European football in the near future.
Beltran could be seen as Lammens’ competitor
The 21-year-old made his debut for River Plate at the start of the 2026 season. He has featured exceptionally well for the Argentine giants and already made 39 appearances in all competitions.
Beltran has a passing accuracy of 70 percent in the Argentine top-flight this campaign and has saved 70 percent of shots against him. He has fine reflexes and is relatively good at commanding his box.
United brought in Darlow to replace Altay Bayindir over the summer, but the former Leeds United man is 36 next year, and he could be transitioned into the third-choice goalkeeping role next term.
Tom Heaton, who recently penned another one-year deal, is likely to move into coaching. This would pave the way for United to bring in another young shot-stopper to compete with Lammens.
Lammens is an undisputed starter outside of the Cup competitions, but United may want someone who can provide solid competition. Beltran’s early progress suggests he could be the answer for United.
He has already represented Argentina once this year. He could feature in one of the upcoming international friendlies against Bolivia, Burkina Faso or Benin as Emiliano Martinez will get a break.
