Alan Smith Questions Why Carrick Is Still Picking “Underwhelming” Man Utd Star – Exclusive
Sky Sports pundit Alan Smith says Marcus Rashford has been “underwhelming” following his return to Man Utd.
Speaking exclusively to Man U News (courtesy of Best Betting Sites UK), Smith insisted that the 28-year-old “needs to do more” if he wants head coach Michael Carrick to continue selecting him:
“I think we all wondered about Rashford when he came back from Barcelona – the penny had to drop that he had to work hard, that he had to accept that he’d be at Man United. It’s not the worst place to be. He clearly wanted to get away. But yeah, it’s been underwhelming, hasn’t it?”
“He’s on massive money. You talk about a hundred-plus-million-pound player – you’ve got Rashford on huge money, so he needs to do more. The penny needs to drop, and at the moment it hasn’t.”
Rashford is not repaying Carrick’s faith
While the England star has looked lively at times, he has yet to score a goal or provide an assist in any competition so far this season.
Many fans feel that Rashford should be dropped after the international break so that Matheus Cunha can be restored to the left flank.
The Man Utd forward has picked up an injury
The decision to drop Rashford may well be taken out of Carrick’s hands anyway. The forward had to withdraw from international duty after suffering what appeared to be a groin strain during the 1-1 draw against Fulham last weekend.
Carrick confirmed after the match that the winger was forced off the pitch with 15 minutes to go at Craven Cottage. He was seen hobbling to the touchline after being substituted on Sunday. He is currently a doubt to face Tottenham in United’s next fixture.
