**Manchester United have announced the signing of 17-year-old Karim Cassim from Manchester City after Premier League ratification.**
After months of waiting, Manchester United have now confirmed the signing of [England youth international Karim Cassim](https://www.unitedinfocus.com/news/who-is-karim-cassim-man-utd-sign-jj-gabriels-england-youth-international-teammate/) from Manchester City. The 17-year-old exited City in the summer, and the deal has been undergoing Premier League ratification before completion.
United announced the signing on social media, writing a welcome message to the teenager. “The United chapter starts here for Karim Cassim”, adding, “A warm welcome to the club!” He arrives to bolster the United U18 midfield ranks initially, and is expected to be followed quickly by David Eze and Isaac Konde.
The signing sees one of City’s very best now pulling on the colours of Manchester United instead, and his arrival is a huge coup. Laurie Whitwell tweeted prior to the announcement to confirm the green light for the deal, but added how United views the signing.
Whitwell claims that United sees Cassim as a potential first-team player in the near future, with his talent and physical traits setting him up nicely to be a top-level number eight.
Cassim is primarily a holding midfielder but is capable of scoring goals, as his three in 10 U18 games last season proved. He is a strong ball carrier, almost in the mould of Carlos Baleba to a degree, while also having top technical ability.
It will be interesting to see where he fits in at Carrington and could form a devastating U18 partnership with Jay McEvoy. It adds to the seriously impressive list of young midfielders at the club, all vying for the same opportunities in the next few seasons, with Cassim’s physical qualities maybe even setting him apart.
