A member of Burnley’s goalkeeper coaching department has left to join Manchester United.
The 27-year-old has made the move from Turf Moor to Old Trafford to become part of Michael Carrick’s backroom staff.
King will work as an assistant first-team goalkeeping coach under the guidance of Craig Mawson, who also joined the Red Devils from Burnley in 2020.
The two aren’t the first with a Burnley connection to work in United’s goalkeeping department, with Jelle ten Rouwelaar - a coach that worked under Vincent Kompany - briefly working there after leaving Turf Moor for a stint with Ajax.
King had been working at Gawthorpe alongside Kersten Kuhl, who remains in position.
The former stopper came through the academy at Burnley as a player, before playing for the likes of Barnoldswick Town, Chester and Clitheroe in non-league. He was forced to retire aged 21.
King, who represented England up to Under-16 level, has been at Burnley since 2018 in various coaching roles.
He’s not the first member of Nicky Hayen’s team to leave this season, with Burnley’s former set-piece coach Pal Fjelde leaving to join Aston Villa in August.
Hayen revealed Burnley would look to replace Fjelde and bring in a new member of the team, but as of yet no replacement has been announced.
Johan van Rumst and Matthias Bernaert have both joined Hayen in the dugout at Burnley following the Belgian’s arrival in July, although their appointments haven’t been officially confirmed either.
They’ve joined the likes of Mike Jackson, Henrik Jensen and Jack Cork as part of the Clarets’ backroom team.
