France have called the defender up to their squad and he could feature for the nation as soon as tomorrow.
France are building once again, after the conclusion of the 2026 World Cup earlier this year.
The French, finishing fourth in the tournament after defeats to Spain in the semi-final and England in the third-place fixture, begin their Nations League campaign this weekend.
Zinedine Zidane made his squad announcement for the upcoming international break last Friday with plenty of recognisable Premier League players featuring including Rayan Cherki and Bradley Barcola.
For Ibrahima Konate, though, having initially been named in the squad, he has now been ruled out with a sprain in his knee.
Manchester United central defender Leny Yoro has now took his place with the decision announced on the official France Football Federation website.
A statement from the Football Federation reads: “Coach Zinedine Zidane has called up Manchester United defender Leny Yoro to replace Ibrahima Konaté for the four matches of the 2027 Nations League.
“Defender Ibrahima Konaté felt pain in his right knee during Wednesday’s training session in Clairefontaine (Yvelines), and underwent a control MRI. He suffers from a slight sprain.
“In agreement with the staff and after cordial exchanges between the doctor of Les Bleus and that of Real Madrid, the player is made available to his club today.
“Ibrahima Konaté is replaced by Leny Yoro (20 years old), the Manchester United defender, currently on a training camp at the CNF with the France Espoirs team.”
Yoro was called up by France’s Under-21s side last week with them set to face Iceland, Estonia, Luxembourg, and Switzerland in their pursuit of qualification of next year’s Under-21s European Championships.
The central defender is now unlikely to feature for the Under-21s and instead could be handed his maiden France cap by Zidane against Türkiye, Belgium, or Italy.
For Leny Yoro, this latest announcement represents a chance for him to prove himself on a senior international platform.
It is now down to him to take that chance should it be handed to him.
