Following his return from the France national team camp, after sustaining an injury, Real Madrid have issued an official statement confirming the nature of Kylian Mbappe’s setback.

“Following tests carried out today on our player Kylian Mbappe by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with hyperextension of the posterior capsule of his left knee. His recovery will be monitored,” the statement read.

The France captain started for the national team on Friday against Turkiye and scored the only goal of the game as his side went on to win their first game under Zinedine Zidane.

However, it came at a cost for Mbappe as he sustained a knee injury soon after his goal and had to be taken off.

The early updates were very concerning, creating a negative atmosphere within the club surrounding his situation, especially after the injury suffered by Ibrahima Konate as well.

Mbappe flew into Madrid from Turkiye earlier today and underwent tests at the club medical facilities. And the nature and extent of the injury has now been confirmed by Los Blancos.

While the statement does not provide an official timeline for Mbappe’s return, club sources indicate to journalist Arancha Rodriguez that the superstar forward will be out for a period of two weeks.

As such, he will likely end up missing Real Madrid’s first game after the international break against Villarreal.

But the big relief will be that the French international will be available to face Barcelona in the first Clasico of the season in late October.
