Newcastle United Keeper Jaouen Suffers New Injury
Newcastle United goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen has sustained another injury while on international duty with France Under-21s.
According to The Shields Gazette, the 20-year-old injured his hamstring in training.
It is a fresh blow for Jaouen, who had only just returned from an ankle injury.
He joins Lewis Miley, who has left England’s Under-21 squad after suffering a knock.
Jaouen Needs “Further Assessment”
Jaouen hasn’t yet returned to Newcastle, but he is due back soon for what the Gazette describes as “further assessment”.
He had an MRI scan yesterday evening (Thursday) in France, but the extent of the injury has not been revealed.
He had got off to a good start with the young French team, keeping a clean sheet as France beat Estonia 2-0 in Pärnu, Estonia. His Newcastle teammate Aladji Bamba also played and assisted Steve Ngoura for France’s first goal.
Jaouen will miss their next two games against Luxembourg tomorrow, and Switzerland on 6th October.
It is thought that he will not be fit for Newcastle’s Premier League game against Coventry City on 12th October.
Jaouen’s short time at Newcastle has been punctuated by injury. He suffered a back problem in preseason that caused him to miss a couple of games.
He made his first competitive appearance in Newcastle’s 3-2 Carabao Cup win over West Bromwich Albion, but suffered an ankle injury in training shortly afterwards and missed a further four matches.
His absence means that Nick Pope will be back on the bench for Newcastle’s upcoming games.
Miley’s Injury Is “Not Serious”
Miley was an unused substitute in England Under-21s 4-2 win over Kazakhstan at Molineux and left the camp earlier this week after suffering a knock.
He is back on Tyneside to have the injury assessed, but it is not thought to be serious.
After he left, England released a statement that read:
“Jobe Bellingham (Borussia Dortmund) and Lewis Miley (Newcastle United) have returned to their clubs for the remainder of the current men’s Under-21s camp.
“Harrison Armstrong (Everton) and Trey Nyoni (Liverpool) have joined up with the group as replacements.”
Newcastle later confirmed the news in a post on X.
Miley and Jaouen join an extensive injury list that includes Will Osula, Amar Dedić, and Tino Livramento, who withdrew from the England men’s squad after suffering a training ground injury before Newcastle’s game against Hull City.
