'A nightmare': Belgian media react to Senne Lammens' performance vs Turkey

Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lammens delivered another top-class performance for Belgium during their 3-0 Nations League win over Turkey.

The 24-year-old is currently Belgium’s first-choice goalkeeper, with Thibaut Courtois out of the picture for the entire Nations League campaign.

He has fully capitalised on his opportunity and produced a fantastic display during the thumping win over Turkey at the Maurice Dufrasne Stadium.

Lammens was superb between the sticks, making eight saves, including a couple in the box, and the Belgian media were undoubtedly impressed.

Popular outlet Het Nieuwsblad (page 23) gave him a 7/10 rating and said that he proved that he is worthy of the manager’s trust for the third consecutive match. The publication added that Lammens turned out to be ‘a nightmare’ for Turkish playmaker Arda Guler.

They wrote: “Proved for the third consecutive match that he is worthy of the national team coach’s trust. He makes the saves he is supposed to make—and as a goalkeeper, that takes you a long way. Turned out to be a nightmare for Guler.”

Lammens had a forgettable World Cup debut for Belgium this summer. He came on for the injured Courtois in the quarter-final against Spain and made a handling error, which contributed to Mikel Merino’s late winner in the 88th minute.

He has since made amends with three fabulous performances against Italy, France and Turkey. He was on the losing side against Les Bleus but made several crucial saves, only to be beaten by Michael Olise’s fantastic late goal before stoppage time.

Lammens received a 7/10 rating from Het Nieuwsblad, which was the second-highest after Kevin De Bruyne’s 8/10. The latter was the man of the match after two sublime goals on the night.

Belgium have another crucial Nations League game in France before the international break concludes. They will be without the services of De Bruyne and Youri Tielemans due to suspension.

Lammens can expect another busy game between the sticks and will hope to guide the Red Devils to a victory, which would see them jump to the top of their group with two matches left.
