You will never guess what John Carver is doing 11 years after Newcastle United exit

John Carver had two spells at Newcastle United and recent left his role as Scotland assistant coach.

John Carver has been appointed as the new manager of Polish side Radomiak Radom.

The 61-year-old has returned to football following his departure as Scotland assistant coach. Carver left his role - which he held for five years - after their dismal World Cup campaign.

Newcastle United will best remember Carver for his two stints on Tyneside. He served as assistant coach to Sir Bobby Robson between 1999 and 2004 before returning in the same capacity under Alan Pardew.

One Pardew joined Crystal Palace in 2014, the Cruddas Park native took charge of the side, narrowly avoiding relegation on the final day. Carver left at the end of the campaign and joined Omonoia Nicosia a year later.

Another left-field move saw the former Toon boss take the reins at Lechia Gdansk. He will now return to Poland after becoming the new Radomiak manager - their third of the season so far.

Radomiak Radak announcement

“John Carver is the new coach of Radomiak,” a club announcement read. “The English coach has signed a contract with our Club valid until 30 June 2027, with an option to extend for another season. Coach, welcome to the Green family! We wish you nothing but success with Radomiak!”

‘A testing time’ - John Carver

Speaking to The Chronicle in 2023, Carver reflected on his time at Newcastle overall - insisting he will always love the club. He said: "It (2014-15 season) was a testing time for the football club and for me. It was not always enjoyable.

“Obviously, we got the rewards on the last day by staying up. The mitigating circumstances that were thrown in front of me were there for anybody to see. The 2014-15 relegation battle was merely one small episode. It ended on a high with Jonas (Gutierrez) running over to me to celebrate the moment.

“I told him that week he could be our hero after everything he'd been through. Seeing him swinging his top around his head was one of the high. I have great memories of Milan, Barcelona, reaching cup finals (as assistant coach) and watching young players come through the ranks. And those will remain forever - just like my love for Newcastle United will."
