Newcastle United: Latest Injury News
Newcastle United are still missing a number of players as we enter the final week of this interminable international break.
Joelinton, Will Osula, Dan Burn, Tino Livramento, and Anthony Elanga have all missed a chunk of this season, while several others have more minor issues.
So, with just over a week until the Premier League returns, who could be in contention to play?
Two Players Are Back in Training
The good news for Newcastle is that two players are back in first team training.
This week the club released footage of Joelinton and Nico doing training drills, seemingly without any issues.
30-year-old Joelinton suffered a thigh injury in preseason and hasn’t featured for Newcastle at all this season. His target was the Coventry City game on 12th October, and judging by the footage of him training, he looks on track for that.

Nico suffered a concussion in the 4-1 defeat to Leeds United and was taken off early in the first half. He missed the 2-1 win over Hull City due to concussion protocols, but he should be in line for a return next week after being cleared to return to full training.

Burn is another long-term absentee after damaging his ankle ligaments in preseason. He hasn’t yet returned to full training and is understood to be following an individual plan until he can – which should be in the next week or so. If everything well, he could play a part against Coventry.
Osula, Dedic, Ramsey, Livramento, and Elanga were not seen in training.
Osula suffered a foot injury in the first game against Liverpool and hasn’t played since. It was reported at one point that he was wearing a splint on his foot, but The Daily Mail’s Craig Hope revealed last month that although Osula had been wearing a protective boot, he had had it removed and he was working his way back to fitness.
It remains to be seen if he will make the Coventry game, though.
Dedić sustained a hamstring injury after a great start to the season and was substituted at half-time against Leeds after trying to play through it. He withdrew from the Bosnia squad – to the chagrin of their manager – but his injury is not thought to be too serious.
Ramsey suffered a hamstring strain in the warm-up at Elland Road. It seemed to be a minor injury at the time, but as he hasn’t yet returned to training, we will see.
Livramento is still doubtful.
He suffered a calf injury in June that forced him to pull out of England’s World Cup squad. He underwent surgery and returned for Newcastle’s game against Millwall in the Carabao Cup, replacing Dedić at halftime, but broke down again in training just before the international break.
The nature of his injury is unknown, as is his prognosis.
Elanga suffered a hamstring injury in training and missed the Leeds game. Everyone feared the worst as he went for an MRI scan, but the damage was less severe than it appeared.
Reports suggested that he was “making good progress” and could be back for the Coventry game, but as with a few of the others, it is a case of wait and see.
Miley and Jaouen have both left international duty with England and France Under-21s respectively. Miley has a minor knock, while Jaouen has a hamstring injury. He went for an MRI scan this week (Thursday), but Newcastle haven’t revealed the results of that.
