With a total of eight points from five Premier League games played, Hull City have made a terrific start to life back in the top flight. A defeat at Newcastle United last time out may have ended the Tigers' unbeaten record, but the spirit shown and manner of the performance ensured confidence and pride at the campaign so far more than remained intact.

Sergej Jakirovic's team have been brilliant so far in the early stages of the campaign and more than deserve their impressive points haul. If City can stay ahead of more than a point a game then they're surely bound for safety this season, which would defy all pre-season expectations.

They may have invested in 18 new faces in the summer, but it is a core group of players who won promotion from the Championship that are playing their part, sprinkled with some of those new faces, including goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis. The greek international has been City's player of the season so far based on our averages, sharing that accolade with another new arrival in Nobel Mendy. Of the two, only Tzolakis has played in all five league games.

We went back through the five Premier League games, ignoring the Carabao Cup matches and gave each player an average score based on their match score each week. To give a fair reflection on the list of players, only those who had played in at least three of the five league games were selected.

Behind Tzolakis and Mendy it is the familiar faces of John Egan, Mo Belloumi and Regan Slater who make up the top five. Despite the difference from top to bottom of the list, it's evident everyone has played their part with Mohamed Ali-Cho sat bottom, but still with an above ageage score of 6.25 so far this season.
