With three weeks between games this international break always felt like the perfect time for 49ers Enterprises, Leeds United and Daniel Farke to sit down and reach an agreement on a new contract. Out of contract in the summer, Farke is yet to agree a new deal which will keep him at Elland Road beyond this season.
The 49ers have made it clear they see the German extending his stay into a fifth season and beyond, with Farke known to be keen to make that happen. While both parties have the same intent in terms of a resolution, the actual details have not been agreed and as things stand there is no contract in place.
Farke himself seems very relaxed on the matter and has often batted away any questions in press conferences about his future, always insisting now was not the time to address the matter. A three-week break did feel like the perfect time to address the matter, but so far with two weeks gone and with all the players on international duty soon returning to Thorp Arch to resume full training for the Premier League's return, that window is about to close.
Of course it doesn't mean talks can't and won't continue, but if no deal is announced by the time Leeds step back out for action at Arsenal next weekend, it will feel like an opportunity lost, as speculation rises on if and when a deal will be reached, as is expected.
That may be the case, but it appears supporters are not worried. We have been asking readers to give us their take on the contract situation, asking how concerned they were about the lack of news regarding a new deal for Farke.
Of the 1250 fans we polled, only 15 percent said they were very concerned by the fact Farke had still not signed a new deal at the club. A quarter admitted to being a little concerned, but the majority of supporters we asked said it was of no concern at all, with 60 percent not worried by any news of progression with the talks.
There is still time for a key update next week before the season resumes, but even if it doesn't come it appears supporters are not concerned at this stage of the campaign.
