Leeds United news on the final weekend day of the extended international break.
Leeds United are now just six days away from finally returning to Premier League action - but the internationals continue with more men in action on Sunday after a busy Saturday night.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin and James Trafford are both part of the current England squad for the break’s four Nations League games and both players were named on Thomas Tuchel’s bench for Saturday evening’s clash in Croatia.
On the goalkeeping front, Tuchel had already declared that Trafford would play England’s first two games and that Jordan Pickford would then resume his place in the nets for the last two.
Pickford had very little to do in Croatia as England romped to a stunning 7-0 victory but Calvert-Lewin was still unable to get any minutes, Tuchel instead bringing on Morgan Rogers and Eberechi Eze as his first two attacking subs as Harry Kane and Anthony Gordon went off in the 70th minute, Eze playing as a striker.
And as Calvert-Lewin was overlooked, another Leeds attacker in summer signing Jean-Matteo Bahoya suffered an injury blow on Saturday evening playing for France’s under-21s.
Bahoya was selected to start as France’s under-21s took on Luxembourg’s under-21s but the young Leeds attacker was taken off after just 35 minutes.
Sky Sports journalist Zinny Boswell reported that Bahoya was taken off after appearing to hurt his ankle and that the Leeds player initially tried to play on before he was replaced by Mathys Tel after who then scored the winner as France secured qualification for the Under-21s Euros.
Elsewhere on Saturday evening, Ilia Gruev experienced a night to forget as Bulgaria suffered a 3-0 defeat at Nations League hosts Iceland, Gruev starting the game but taken off in the 55th minute.
Two Leeds men also locked horns as Nico Elvedi’s Switzerland side hosted Jaka Bijol’s Slovenia in a Nations League clash, Switzerland recording a 2-1 victory in which both Whites players played the full duration of the game.
From a Leeds perspective, Sunday sees Wales host Denmark tonight in a 7.45pm kick-off. Ethan Ampadu, Dan James and youngster Jayden Lienou are all part of the Dragons squad although Lienou has yet to feature in the current tranche of games.
On a busy Sunday, here we will bring you all of the news involving Leeds players and the club itself throughout the day.
