The international break is almost over, which means the Premier League’s long awaited turn from a very long international break, where some nations played four times, is almost upon us.
But, the damage of time away may only just be becoming clear for Premier League clubs, and [SuperCoach EPL players.](https://www.supercoach.com.au/epl)
A number of big names have already returned from UEFA Nations League and international duty due to injuries, creating some potentially important selection calls ahead of the resumption of the Premier League season this weekend.
Here are the injury updates every SuperCoach EPL player needs to know before locking in their team.
**Erling Haaland (Manchester City, Norway)
Injury:** Unspecified
**Price**: £13,700,000
**Possible replacement:** Mohamed Belloumi (Hull City – £9,870,000)
Haaland asked to be substituted during Norway’s 2-1 UEFA Nations League loss to Portugal, just days out from a blockbuster Premier League showdown with rivals Liverpool.
The City superstar started but lasted only 67 minutes before signalling to the bench that he needed to come off on Monday (AEDT).
It remains to be seen what the injury is and the severity for Haaland, who leads the Premier League Golden Boot race with give goals in as many games this season but it is one to monitor.
**Alexander Isak (Liverpool, Sweden)
Injury:** Thigh
**Price**: £8,820,000
**Possible replacement:** Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Everton – £8,770,000)
Isak’s international break was cut short after picking up a thigh injury in Sweden’s 2-1 win over Romania in the Nations League.
The Liverpool forward Isak played the full 90 minutes and scored in the victory, but the “small” problem – in the words of national team head coach Graham Potter – became more apparent afterwards and he was released from the squad before Sweden’s remaining three matches.
**Joao Pedro (Chelsea, Brazil)
Injury:** Knee
**Price**: £10,390,000
**Possible replacement:** Antoine Semenyo (Manchester City – £10,630,000)
Unlike many of the players on this list, Pedro did not suffer his injury while away with Brazil. The Chelsea forward was forced to withdraw from Carlo Ancelotti’s squad before the international friendly fixtures against the Socceroos and India, after picking up a knee problem, having played the full 90 minutes and contributed a goal and assist in Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Hull City.
The problem subsequently kept Pedro out of Chelsea’s final match before the international break, and he has been receiving specialist treatment on the knee in London. Reports have suggested he could face up to four weeks out.
It is extraordinary that the three strikers discussed on Football360’s pre-season SuperCoach EPL preview as must haves are now all the headline injuries heading into the league’s resumption.
**Kai Havertz (Arsenal, Germany)
Injury:** Muscle strain
**Price**: £7,070,000
**Possible replacement:** Pedro Neto (Chelsea – £7,740,000)
It is not what Germany head Jurgen Klopp nor Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta wanted to see – Havertz succumbing to injury.
Havertz, who is integral to Arsenal’s tactics, suffered a muscle strain during Germany’s 1-1 draw with the Netherlands, which forced him to leave the national team camp and return to Arsenal.
He has scored three goals this season.
**Christos Tzolis (Arsenal, Greece)
Injury:** Hamstring
**Price**: £5,580,000
**Possible replacement:** Anthony Elanga (Newcastle United – £5,530,000)
Greece have been on a role during the international break but it came at a cost as Tzolis hurt his hamstring.
Tzolis – an off-season signing from Belgian outfit Club Brugge – had to be withdrawn inside the opening 20 minutes of Greece’s draw against the Netherlands last week.
There are now fears the Greek forward could miss a month of football.
**Nico O’Reilly (Manchester City, England)**
**Injury:** Unspecified
**Price**: £5,930,000
**Possible replacement:** Jannik Schuster (Brentford – £5,720,000)
O’Reilly’s England camp ended prematurely after an unspecified injury ruled him out of the remainder of the Nations League window.
The Manchester City man sat out England’s 2-0 victory over Czechia before being released from the squad and sent back to his club.
It remains to be seen if O’Reilly will be fit for the resumption of the Premier League this weekend.
**Jan Paul van Hecke (Tottenham Hotspur, Netherlands)**
**Injury:** Foot
**Price**: £10,250,000
**Possible replacement:** Maxim De Cuyper (Brighton and Hove Albion – £9,770,000)
Tottenham have already endured a forgettable start to 2026-27 and they could now be without a key defensive pillar after Van Hecke picked up a foot injury during the Netherlands’ triumph over Serbia last week.
Van Hecke, who had to withdraw from the squad as a result, has played every minute of Spurs’ Premier League campaign before the break, making his fitness particularly important ahead of their trip to Manchester United.
Netherlands and Spurs teammate Micky van der Ven also suffered an injury on Monday (AEDT), but Xavi played down the significance of it after the centre-back landed on his hand and felt “dizzy”.
**Cody Gakpo (Liverpool, Netherlands)
Injury:** Ankle
**Price**: £9,900,000
**Possible replacement:** Morgan Rogers (Chelsea – £9,680,000)
Gakpo was forced out of the Netherlands squad after suffering an ankle injury during their 2-1 Nations League victory over Serbia in Belgrade last week. The Liverpool forward was unable to make it through the first half and was subsequently ruled out of the Dutch side’s remaining matches of the international window.
He returned to Liverpool to be assessed by the club’s medical staff, adding another concern for the Reds ahead of the visit of City.
The 27-year-old has scored two goals and supplied four assists this season.
**Patrick Dorgu (Manchester United, Denmark)**
**Injury:** Hamstring
**Price**: £5,750,000
**Possible replacement:** Jay Dasilva (Coventry City – £5,710,000)
Dorgu lasted only around half an hour of Denmark’s 2-0 Nations League victory over Wales before suffering what appeared to be a hamstring injury. The Manchester United man, who can play in a more attacking role but is listed as a defender on SuperCoach, was seen holding the back of his thigh before being substituted and was subsequently ruled out of Denmark’s remaining matches.
The Dane was sent back to United for further assessment, leaving his availability uncertain for the Premier League’s return. The 21-year-old had featured in all five of United’s league matches before the break and provided an assist in their 1-1 draw with Fulham.
**Brian Brobbey (Sunderland, Netherlands)**
**Injury:** Hamstring
**Price**: £6,220,000
**Possible replacement:** Emersonn (Ipswich Town – £6,560,000)
Sunderland star Brobbey suffered one of the more concerning injuries of the international window, pulling up with a hamstring problem during the Netherlands’ Nations League clash with Germany. He lasted only 35 minutes before being replaced by Joshua Zirkzee and subsequently withdrew from the Dutch camp.
There is yet to be a definitive timeline for his return – having already scored three goals for Sunderland this season, although Dutch sports doctor Cees-Rein van den Hoogenband publicly described the injury as “very serious” while discussing the physical demands being placed on players.
