Matthias Jaissle has named Alan Shearer and Kevin Keegan as the club legends he would love to see in his current Newcastle United team.
The German spoke to supporters at an official Q&A event for season ticket holders and members. Earlier in the week, Jaissle also invited the local media to the training ground for an informal meeting.
The intention was to get to know the journalists better, showing an approachable side to the German during the international break. Newcastle do not return to action until October 12, giving Jaissle the opportunity to get better acquainted with his surroundings.

Alan Shearer and Kevin Keegan chosen
One supporter asked who Jaissle would take from Newcastle’s extensive history book and slot into the current team. He picked all-time leading goalscorer Shearer and the late Keegan, who has a German connection due to his two Ballon d’Ors at Hamburg.
Both Toon icons would certainly solve the No.10 and No.9 debate at St James’ Park. Due to injuries, Jaissle has struggled to name a settled frontline so far this season.

‘We’re pleased’ - Matthias Jaissle
Jaissle also told supporters that he is pleased with the start to the campaign. He said: “I think we're really pleased with the start. We're happy so far, especially considering all the circumstances.
“We joined as a coaching staff the club really late in the transfer window in summer, so we didn't have so much time to work with the players in the preseason in the end. Now just remember the Hull match.
“We had many, many injuries where we suffered, so this transition period along with the injured players was giving us a hard time and big challenges. But we survived that quite good. We overcame these challenges and therefore I always say like the overall picture is great. It was a good start but still with potential to improve.”
