Pickford pleads guilty to careless driving after Cheshire incident

Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has pleaded guilty to driving without due care or attention following an incident in Cheshire earlier this year.

The England international entered his plea in writing through the Single Justice Procedure after an incident involving his blue Lamborghini Urus in Knutsford on 14 April.

According to court documents reported by The Independent, PC Cecil Ricardo of Cheshire Police said he saw Pickford’s vehicle fail to give way before joining Toft Road, causing two other vehicles to brake sharply.

The officer said he activated his lights and siren and followed the Lamborghini, with his police vehicle reaching 50mph in a 30mph zone while Pickford’s car was still pulling away.

Pickford subsequently stopped and has since admitted the offence of driving without due care or attention.

The Everton goalkeeper has requested the opportunity to appear before the court to present mitigation.

Pickford told Warrington Magistrates’ Court in his written response: “I would like to attend court to put forward my mitigation.”

The case was adjourned last week and is now due to be heard at Chester Magistrates’ Court on 7 December. No sentence has yet been imposed. The Independent

Pickford, 32, remains away with England during the current international break and played the full 90 minutes of Friday’s 7-0 Nations League victory over Croatia.

The offence should not be confused with dangerous driving, which is a separate and more serious charge. Pickford’s guilty plea relates specifically to driving without due care or attention.
