Stats experts predict Sunderland's final Premier League position ahead of Brighton and…

The stats experts at Opta have predicted where Sunderland will finish in this season’s Premier League.

Sunderland will make their long-awaited return to Premier League action this weekend when they host Brighton and Hove Albion at the Stadium of Light.

A whole host of Black Cats stars have been jetting around the globe and representing their countries during an extended international break - and that has thrown up some major issues for Sunderland after the likes of Brian Brobbey and Dan Ballard picked up injuries that are currently being assessed to get some indication of how long they could be facing on the sidelines.

There is a need for the Black Cats to find some form after a run of just one win in their opening five games of the season left them four places and one point above the relegation zone as the domestic action gave way to the international break. However, it is still very early in a long and challenging season and Regis Le Bris will be confident his side can find their stride in the league and continue making progress in the Carabao Cup and Europa League over the coming weeks and months.

But where are Sunderland predicted to finish in the league when a historic season comes to a close next May? We take a look at the latest predicted final Premier League table from the stats experts at Opta.
