Red Bull is enhancing Leeds United’s global visibility, which in turn is bringing in more commercial opportunities, according to football finance guru Rob Wilson.
The energy drinks company holds a 10% stake in the club and internally, the business and sporting CEO Oliver Mintzlaff are seen as a valuable sounding board for the 49ers when advice is needed on certain topics.
The partnership has also brought in esteemed commercial revenue. It is understood that the money received from the already-hefty front-of-shirt sponsorship, agreed in 2024, significantly increased upon promotion to the Premier League.
But Wilson - professor at the University Campus of Football Business - says the partnership with Red Bull stretches beyond the financial realm.
“Red Bull really boosts visibility and income for Leeds United and it goes way beyond the fact that they are a shirt sponsor,” he began. “They're bringing together two things; money and global visibility.

“And when you fuse those two things together - particularly for a brand like Leeds United - and then couple that with the global appeal of the Premier League, you've really started to put the ingredients together to supercharge commercial revenues and those sponsorship opportunities.”
Some fans have been sceptical about Red Bull’s involvement, having personified the brand of overseas clubs - such as RB Salzburg and RB Leipzig - while renaming key assets such as stadiums and training grounds.
However, the 49ers have made clear that the renaming of Elland Road is not on the agenda and that this was not a consideration as a vehicle to drive funding for the expansion of the stadium - which instead, in time, will pay for itself.
In 2024, Paraag Marathe said the renaming of the club and redesigning of the home white kit will also not be on the cards while the 49ers are in charge.
Going forward, the newly-installed Indepdenent Football Regulator wil lprevent any such efforts by owners of Football League clubs, if it is against the wishes of a fanbase; one of the body’s aims is to protect football heritage assets.
In February 2025, Marathe stated that there had been no discussions or intimations from Red Bull during conversations that they were contemplating a full takeover of Leeds.
Meanwhile, the connection between Leeds and Red Bull saw the Whites use the newly-opened RWJBarnabas Health Red Bulls Performance Center in New Jersey during this season’s pre-season tour of the States. It is ranked as one of the best sporting facilities on the planet.
