October 6 – Sunderland have signed two new partnerships, one bringing an electric vehicle charging hub to the Stadium of Light and another with the University of Sunderland.

RAW Charging is investing around £750,000 to build, run and maintain the hub. It will have 20 bays, 16 at 150kW and four at 300kW, powered by 100% renewable energy and open to fans and the public.

“By installing a state-of-the-art EV charging hub at the Stadium of Light, we are not only improving the experience for fans and visitors but also supporting the wider transition to cleaner, greener transport in the North East,” said chief operations officer Paul Kingsmore.

The project falls under the club’s Ready Eco programme, which targets running on its own renewable energy by 2028 and net zero by 2040.

The University of Sunderland becomes the club’s official higher education partner on a multi-year deal. The two worked together on Made in Sunderland Week last season, and students will now be involved through themed weeks and other projects.

“The University of Sunderland is an important part of the fabric of our city, and we’re delighted to formalise our relationship through this multi-year partnership,” said chief commercial officer Scott McCubbin. “We look forward to building on that work, creating meaningful opportunities for students and celebrating the people, businesses and organisations that make Sunderland such a special place.”
