Emmanuel Petit played with Coventry City boss Frank Lampard at Chelsea.
EMMANUEL Petit believes Frank Lampard is ready to take on a top job again following his success with Coventry City.
The former France World Cup winner enjoyed an illistrious playing career which included spells with Monaco, Arsenal, Barcelona and Chelsea.
And Petit also won 63 caps for France and lifted the World Cup and European Championships on the international stage.
He scored the third goal in the 1998 FIFA World Cup final as France thrashed Brazil 3-0 on home soil in Paris.
Petit played alongside Coventry boss Lampard for just over two seasons at Chelsea.
And Petit believes Lampard has learned his lessons from his early struggles in management to take on a top job once again.
Speaking to Grosvenor Sport, Petit said: “Frank Lampard was a great player and a big name, so it is understandable that he wanted to manage top clubs like Chelsea and Everton early in his career.
“But, there was a feeling that he perhaps moved too quickly into those roles.
“The work he is doing at Coventry is incredible. He narrowly missed out two seasons ago but succeeded last season.
“He has maintained the spirit of the team and convinced the players to believe in his vision despite that initial failure.
“He trusts them, and they have proved they are able to return to the Premier League.
“Coventry has not been in the Premier League since I was playing. This represents a massive improvement for the club, achieved in two seasons. Now we will see if they can stay up.
“The last two seasons have shown that he has restarted his managerial career step by step. This approach is important, and he has proved to be the right person for the job.
“Regardless of what happens to Coventry this season, and we know how difficult it is for a promoted team to survive, Frank has shown he is a good manager.
“He fought for two seasons to bring them back after a long period away from the Premier League. Other clubs will certainly continue to monitor his progress even if they go down.”
