Sheffield Wednesday won 2-0 against the young Black Cats side at Hillsborough on Tuesday night in the Jersey Mike Trophy. Heskey managed to get himself on the scoresheet for SWFC along with Barry Bannan.
Heskey, 20, returned to the Owls on loan from Manchester City over the summer after he spent the second-half of last season in South Yorkshire. He has since made five appearances in all competitions in this campaign, three of which have come in League One, and he has found the net once.

Journalist Norcliffe has delivered his verdict on his display against Sunderland U21s, as per The Star: “His dinked finish from close-range broke the deadlock inside 20 minutes. Looked sharp and will hope to force his way into the starting line-up in the coming weeks now. Offers Wednesday athleticism in that department. 7/10.”
Sheffield Wednesday return to league action this Saturday after two weekends off and they face an away trip to rivals Huddersfield Town as they look to keep their momentum going. Henrik Pedersen’s side are sat in 4th place in the table after their first seven fixtures.
Sheffield Wednesday’s Jaden Heskey catching the eye
Sheffield Wednesday brought Heskey back in the last transfer window to bolster their midfield department. He gives SWFC more competition and depth in the middle of the park.
At the age of 20, he has potential to grow and develop down the line. Manchester City gave him the green light to head out the exit door on a temporary basis again to get some more experience under his belt.
Heskey battles it out with the likes of Bannan, Billy Mitchell and Callum Slattery, among others, for a place in Pedersen’s starting XI. The youngster has been on the books at the Etihad Stadium for his whole career to date.
The Mancunian has risen up through the academy of the Premier League giants and has been a regular for them at various different youth levels. He has played once for their first-team in the past in a Carabao Cup tie away at Huddersfield Town back in 2025.

The Verdict: Jaden Heskey will be pushing for Sheffield Wednesday start vs Huddersfield Town
Heskey will be pushing for a start for Sheffield Wednesday against Huddersfield Town. SWFC have drawn their last two league outings 0-0 at home against North West pair Wigan Athletic and Sheffield Wednesday before the international break.
The Owls need to be a bit more ruthless in front of goal if they are to establish themselves as genuine promotion contenders this term. They will get the chance to bring in some new faces when the January transfer window opens up for business. Pedersen’s side will also get the opportunity to let some players leave if needed.
