Birmingham City's ambitions of reaching the Premier League sooner rather than later mean that some who are currently on the books at St. Andrew's @ Knighthead Park will likely become a victim of the club's success.
Knighthead Capital Management have continuously backed Chris Davies in the transfer market to make the necessary changes to his squad as Blues look to mount a successful promotion bid in the Championship.
Ironically, the West Midlands ouftit have made a much stronger start to this season than last, despite overseeing two high-profile transfer windows across 2025/26.
However, some who came through the door in B9 throughout those two windows have already departed, but it is fair to say that many supporters are still shocked that Scott Wright, who arrived from Rangers two years ago, hasn't followed them through the exit door on a permanent basis for the betterment of his own career.

Scott Wright looked a solid transfer addition for Birmingham City in League One season

The Scottish winger previously boasted extensive experience for the Gers and Aberdeen, and was part of the Light Blues squad which reached the UEFA Europa League final against Eintracht Frankfurt in May 2022.
Blues were able to acquire his services on a three-year contract for £300,000 in the latter stages of Davies' first transfer window at St. Andrew's, with Wright being one of several additions with links to the Scottish game.
Having netted a last-gasp winner against Wigan Athletic on debut, there were high hopes for this particular signing from Birmingham fans and the winger continued to impress in early 2025 after a three-month injury, before further disaster struck for Wright on this particular front.
Scott Wright's Birmingham City career has been impacted by injury misfortune

Wright once sustained a serious ACL injury whilst turning out for Aberdeen in 2019, and unfortunately for the right-winger, a similar issue came to the fore in an uneventful goalless draw with Reading in February 2025.
After his leg buckled at the Select Car Leasing Stadium, the former Scottish youth international played no further part in Birmingham's record-breaking season in League One as he was to be sidelined until December of last year with said issue.
This left Davies needing to recruit further depth in wide areas, and since then, the trio of Demarai Gray, Patrick Roberts and Carlos Vicente have been added on a permanent basis, whilst Liam Millar also arrived on loan from Hull City this summer and has flourished in his first four appearances.
Wright eventually returned from the sidelines, but his misfortune was compounded by the total of just 10 appearances on loan at Dundee FC post-January, where he scored just once against Kilmarnock on April 11th.

Unsurprisingly, there were question marks over Wright's immediate future in the Second City given his drop in Davies' pecking order and the need for Birmingham to add further bodies to their squad after a campaign of inconsistency in 2025/26.
Blues' wide areas were impacted throughout pre-season due to various transfer situations and injuries though, meaning the door didn't initially close on the Scot, who featured as a substitute in the EFL Cup win over Swansea City and was named on the bench for the 2-1 victory over Wrexham on August 28th.

However, he and compatriot, Marc Leonard, were initially omitted from Blues' 25-man squad between September and January, with Davies saying of Wright's predicament: “If it’s not to be that (a sudden transfer) then he will be with us and maybe play some 21s football to keep his fitness up, then soon enough the window will be open and he will look elsewhere probably.”
Scott Wright should still seek Birmingham City exit despite squad U-turn

It was recently announced that Kanya Fujimoto, who has been used sparsely since arriving in the West Midlands last summer, had joined Tokyo Verdy on loan, meaning Wright was elected into Birmingham's 25-man squad as a result.
However, this should not have the biggest impact on the winger's long-term future, as he hasn't started a league game in almost two years and is set to find it extremely tough to oust the likes of Roberts and Vicente anytime soon.
As cover in the short-term, there are worse options for Davies to have, but for his own benefit, Wright should still be looking for a permanent departure in January, and so should his current employers if they are looking to recoup any funds ahead of the expiration of his contract on June 30th.
