Man City ace haunted Norwich: They should join Birmingham in making January move

Manchester City are currently embroiled in controversy surrounding their owner after being found guilty of almost all charges brought against them by the Premier League.

But the club maintain their innocence, and have officially lodged their appeal against the decision, with business as usual as the football world awaits an outcome on the case.

The Premier League side are still fighting on four fronts in these early stages of the campaign, with the team leading the top flight table and into the next round of the EFL Cup.

A 5-0 win against Norwich City in the previous round saw them sail through under Enzo Maresca, with Floyd Samba enjoying a standout performance with a brace.

The 17-year-old has had limited first team opportunities at the Etihad, and a January loan move could help him gain some valuable experience.

Here we look at two Championship sides that should make their move to sign Samba when the market opens in the new year…

Norwich City

Mo Toure is obviously the star man at Norwich at the moment, with the forward making a big splash since joining Philippe Clement’s side last summer.

However, he is currently out injured, and his absence will be a big loss for the Canaries, with the player set to be out for months.

So bringing in another player capable of playing as a forward would make a lot of sense for the Norfolk outfit, who are light on options otherwise.

Jovon Makama will likely step up to lead the line in the meantime, but having another option arrive in January would make a lot of sense, especially as Samba is a versatile youngster that can also be deployed as an attacking-midfielder.

If Toure is even back by then, he could also be the subject of transfer speculation after his promising start to this campaign.

The 22-year-old scored five goals in seven Championship appearances, and the likes of Hull City were linked with a deal before the summer market closed.

Norwich also saw up close how promising a player Samba looked, so it would only be logical that they would have a keener interest than most in a possible deal.

A loan for the second half of the campaign has the potential to be beneficial for all parties, particularly as gaining Championship experience may prove quite useful for Man City in the future.

Birmingham City

Birmingham City have scored 12 goals from eight games, which isn’t a particularly impressive figure for a team with promotion aspirations.

Chris Davies has the likes of Jay Stansfield, August Priske and Luis Vazquez to choose from as attacking options.

But Samba is the kind of profile that the team lacks, and he can provide attacking penetration from the middle in a deeper role.

The youngster has the potential to fit in quite well with Davies’ style of play, and they should be keeping a keen eye on him after the two goals he scored against Norwich in September.

A loan move could be quite beneficial for all parties, as it’s clear that some extra attacking firepower is needed at St. Andrew’s to bridge the gap to the top teams.
