Aston Villa finally return to action against Brentford this weekend after the extended international break.

Unai Emery’s side target their first home win of the season on Saturday after losing to both Arsenal and Nottingham Forest, but they did secure their first league win of the campaign at Tottenham before the break.

Villa’s medical team will check up on players as they return to Bodymoor Heath, but there doesn’t appear to be any fresh problems, which will be a huge relief for Emery.

Matty Cash was forced off in the second half of Poland’s defeat at Bosnia, but BirminghamLive understands that the right-back only suffered a dead leg, which will again come as a boost for Villa knowing there isn’t any long-term damage.

Brian Madjo, Alysson, Pau Torres and Marco Bizot all overcame injury during the break and featured against Sevilla.

Here is the latest on the injury front...

Leon Goretzka

The midfielder returned to training during the break and was involved in the camp over in Spain. He didn’t, however, feature against Sevilla as he wasn’t quite ready.

Goretzka could be in the squad to face Brentford, but Emery will be asked to provide an update on Friday during his pre-match press conference.

Possible return date: Brentford (H) - October 10

Ian Maatsen

It's fortunate that Maatsen hasn’t missed too much football due to the break, but he is still sidelined for several weeks yet.

He won't play against Brentford, and will likely miss the trip to Newcastle too, as well as home Champions League games against Fenerbahce and Viking, but could be back in time to face Manchester City on October 24 at the earliest.

Possible return date: Bournemouth (A) - October 28

Amadou Onana

Onana is ruled out for most, if not all, of this season after suffering an ACL injury during the World Cup while representing Belgium.

Possible return date: Unknown
