Alan Connell and Mack Allan preview development squad's return

AFC Bournemouth development squad are back after the international break, as they welcome Plymouth Argyle to Wimborne Town's Wyatt Homes Stadium.

Alan Connell's side have had an extended break from action, not playing since they beat Stoke City 3-1 on 21st September in Premier League 2.

The development squad saw several players in international action over the break. With Charlie Stevens, Ade Solanke, George Chubinidze and Max Lyall-Rajendra all travelling with their national team.

Monday night's game is in the Premier League Cup. The Cherries currently sit third in their group after two games played, which also contains Cardiff City, Leicester City and Plymouth Argyle.

The top two teams in each group advance to the knockout stages, but with each team playing each other twice, there is plenty of time for the Cherries to secure progression.

Currently sitting sixth in Premier League 2, the young Cherries will be looking to build on a strong start to the campaign, in the first season as a Category One Academy.

Monday night's visitors, Plymouth, currently sit bottom of the group.

Ahead of the game, afcb.co.uk caught up with Alan Connell to preview the fixture:

"Throughout the international break, the player's attitudes have been really good.

"We had a difficult friendly against Leyton Orient's first team, which was a great opportunity and experience for our players.

"We've also had a lot of players away on international duty, and some players training with the first team, both of which are incredible opportunities and will be great for the lads.

"As a group, we are really looking forward to the Premier League Cup game on Monday. They are all difficult games at this level but we've put ourselves in a good position thanks to our win at Leicester a few weeks ago.

"We will try and back that game and the training up in the game on Monday.

Since moving to play home games at Wimborne Town's Wyatt Homes Stadium, the development squad have been supported by strong crowds of Cherries fans. Connell continued:

"The players thrive off playing under the lights. It's a lovely stadium, and the turnout from our supporters has been fantastic, I can't thank them enough and we are hopeful we will see another strong crowd on Monday night."

Afcb.co.uk also spoke to Mack Allan, who recently travelled with the first team to our historic first Europa League game in San Sebastián.

"Before the international break, we had a tough run of games in a short space of time. So this break has been all about working hard and getting ready to come back to our next challenge.

"It's been good to get a strong workload in when we don't have to worry about having too many games. We've had double sessions and hard training days but that's what the international breaks are beneficial for.

"It's always good to play at Wimborne, there's always a good crowd supporting us who get behind the team. It'll be great to see even more of them on Monday night.
