The entire footballing world, including Leeds United, was shaken to its core following reports that Manchester City have been found guilty of charges relating to breaches of financial regulations.

Initially, it was reported that Man City were found guilty of virtually all of their 115 charges. However, it has since been reported that they have been found guilty on every single charge.

As expected, Man City are appealing the decision, so as of now any potential punishment has been undecided.

Whatever happens to Man City will have a direct effect on Leeds. Now a talkSPORT reporter has shared what he’s heard regarding Man City’s potential punishment.

Alan Brazil shares what he’s heard about potential Man City punishment

There’s been a lot of talk regarding a potential points deduction this season for Man City.

If this hypothetical points deduction were so sizeable that it would see them relegated from the Premier League, this would directly benefit Leeds, who are aiming to establish themselves in the top flight.

Instead of having to worry about three relegation positions, a hefty enough deduction would essentially mean there are only two relegation spots in whatever season a punishment came into effect. Increasing Leeds’ chances of staying in the division.

TalkSPORT presenter Alan Brazil recently weighed in on what Man City’s potential punishment could be. But what he said will not make Leeds supporters happy.

“This might be just nonsense, but two different sources have told me this,” Brazil began by saying.

“I’ll tell you what I’ve heard. I’m hearing a 60-point deduction, which will please people, and it will still give City a chance of survival.

“And I don’t know if it’s this season; is it next season? But they’re talking about a 60-point deduction from two different sources.”

Considering the crime, if they are found guilty, this point deduction would be pitiful. There’s every chance that even with a 60-point deduction, Man City would still stay up.

Could you imagine the backlash if our season took a turn for the worse and we ended up going down whilst Man City managed to stay up after systematically cheating across multiple years?

😱 "I'm hearing 60 point deduction!"

😬 "A lot of people wouldn't think that's enough!"

What would be an appropriate punishment for Man City?

All of these hypothetical punishments would be subject to Man City’s appeal failing, of course.

This is genuinely a topic I could talk about for all day.

The charges surrounding Man City run from 2009-2018. In my opinion, if they are found guilty, every trophy they have won during and after this spell should be stripped and voided. Even the ones after 2018, as they came from a foundation built upon manipulating the rules.

As the charges span nine years, they should be handed a points deduction every season for nine seasons that is drastic enough that they essentially get relegated every year for the next nine years.

It is likely that their current owners would obviously leave the club if all this happened. However, before they go, you’d have to make sure that they pay a fine of £830million. That is the alleged amount they pumped into the club through inflated sponsorships.

In truth, it’s impossible to undo the harm Man City have caused

Of course, this is incredibly harsh. Man City as we know it would essentially have to start again as a club from scratch in the depths of non-league.

But they have brought the entire game into disrepute. Leeds, as well as all the other Premier League clubs, should not have to come up against them for many years.

It’s the normal match going, Man City fan you have to have some sympathy for. They’re the ones who are going to feel the brunt of this whole saga, and it’s certainly not their fault.

In truth, the amount of butterfly effects Man City have caused since 2009 is endless and virtually every other club has suffered as a result. For example, Man City signed Kalvin Phillips, our best midfielder, in 2022. We would then go on to be relegated the next season.

If they didn’t start cheating in 2009, would this have happened? Who knows.

It’s impossible to undo the harm that Man City have caused. But the punishment should be so severe that no other club even dreams of cheating to the extent that they are said to have done.
