Arsenal face significant competition for Jarell Quansah, with Real Madrid regularly scouting the Bayer Leverkusen defender ahead of a potential move next summer.
Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg claims there is already movement behind the scenes surrounding the 23-year-old, who could leave Leverkusen in 2027.
Arsenal, Chelsea and former club Liverpool are all reportedly interested, while Real Madrid have been regularly sending scouts to watch the England international.
Quansah only left Liverpool for Leverkusen in July 2025 after progressing through the Anfield academy and making 58 senior appearances for the Reds.
He helped Liverpool win the Premier League in his final campaign before moving to Germany, having also collected a Carabao Cup winners’ medal in 2024.
The centre-back has since established himself at Leverkusen, making 50 appearances across all competitions and scoring five goals.
His progress has also been recognised internationally, with Quansah becoming increasingly involved under England manager Thomas Tuchel.
He featured at this summer’s World Cup and started England’s Nations League victory over Czechia at Wembley on Tuesday, earning his ninth senior cap.
Arsenal’s interest is particularly notable after reports claimed the Gunners had a £56 million approach rejected last summer before eventually signing Ezri Konsa from Aston Villa.
However, Liverpool could hold a significant advantage if Quansah becomes available.
Plettenberg reports that the Reds retained a €70m buy-back clause when selling their academy graduate, with that option remaining valid until June 15, 2027.
That could complicate matters for Arsenal and Real Madrid should Liverpool decide they want the defender back at Anfield.
Quansah’s ability to operate at centre-back and right-back would provide the versatility Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has increasingly valued across his defensive options.
Arsenal already have considerable competition in central defence following Konsa and Piero Hincapie’s summer arrivals, alongside Gabriel Magalhaes, William Saliba and Cristhian Mosquera.
There is consequently no suggestion that signing another centre-back is currently a priority.
Quansah’s age, Premier League experience and continued development in Germany nevertheless make him an attractive long-term option.
With Real Madrid now scouting him and Liverpool holding a potentially decisive contractual advantage, Arsenal would face a highly competitive race if they renew their interest next summer.
