Bruno Fernandes is a wanted man as the midfielder enters the final months of his contract at Manchester United, with no extension offered to him yet. The Portuguese star has been one of the best players in the world over the last few seasons and remains a crucial figure for the Red Devils.
His presence in the squad is arguably one of the reasons United are not in even greater trouble. The club would love to keep him, and Fernandes could be open to remaining at Old Trafford, but the lack of a new contract is giving other clubs hope.
Juventus dreaming of a free transfer
Juventus would love to sign Fernandes as a free agent, with the Bianconeri viewing him as a gamechanger who could make a major difference to their squad. The midfielder’s quality and experience would provide them with an important addition as they look to continue growing.
The Old Lady are therefore monitoring his situation closely and will be encouraged by the fact that Manchester United have not yet offered him an extension. A player of Fernandes’ quality becoming available without a transfer fee would represent an attractive opportunity for Juve.
However, Juventus are not the only European side interested in signing the Portuguese midfielder. Tuttojuve reveals that Atletico Madrid are also in the running and are actively trying to lure Fernandes away.
Atletico Madrid join the race
Fernandes would be expected to start for most teams in the world, making him an appealing target for Atletico. The Spanish club reportedly want him to join their efforts to overtake Barcelona and Real Madrid and become champions of Spain.
Juventus are aware that Atletico’s interest is serious, meaning they cannot simply wait and hope the situation works in their favour. The Bianconeri will need to demonstrate that they are equally determined to secure the midfielder.
For Juventus, the possibility of signing Fernandes on a free transfer makes the situation particularly appealing. They would still have to convince the player that Turin is the right destination for the next stage of his career.
With Atletico also pushing for his signature, Juventus must now show Fernandes that they are prepared to do everything possible to bring him to the club. His contract situation means the race could become increasingly competitive in the months ahead.
