Sean Steur has proven to be an instant hit at Newcastle United since joining from Ajax for £20million.
Sean Steur cannot wait to return to Newcastle United after impressing for the Netherlands under-21s during the international break.
Signed for £20million from Ajax in July, the 18-year-old was expected to play a supporting role this season. However, Steur received the ultimate vote of confidence when Matthias Jaissle named him in the starting line-up for the Premier League opener against Liverpool.
Steur immediately turned heads in pre-season in a 1-1 draw with Gateshead. Better opposition would soon arrive but the Dutchman - aside from a sloppy pass at Elland Road - has stood up to the test.
He was arguably Newcastle’s best player in the 2-1 win over Hull City before the international break. The ultimate praise is that the Magpies lost their composure once he came off in the second half.

‘I can’t wait’ - Sean Steur
Speaking to Dutch media, the Toon youngster opened up about loving life at Newcastle. Steur faced criticism in the Netherlands from within Ajax circles when he jumped ship to move to the Premier League.
“I’m going back to England on Thursday, which I’m really looking forward to,” Steur said after a 4-0 win against Bosnia and Herzegovina. “I’m just having a great time there and I can’t wait to go back.”
“Things are going well but the physical aspect could be better. On the ball, everything could actually be much better. I don’t think I have reached my peak yet. So I look forward to developing that.”

Matthias Jaissle on Sean Steur
Jaissle was also blown away by Steur’s ability to bounce back from a disappointing showing against Leeds United. He told reporters after the Hull win: “He showed that after a match (Leeds) where he was not on his highest level, where he got a lot of criticism.
“We are emotionally stable. We gave him and the other lads all the confidence and support they needed. Then, when he shows up like this, it is really special.
"It (Steur’s performance) is not normal in football, so I am really pleased. But, on the other hand, it also shows that we have a young, young squad, and they need to adapt to the physicality of the league.”
