“I think”: Reporter on whether Sheffield Wednesday loanee Harry Gray has Leeds United future

Sheffield Wednesday signed the youngster on a temporary basis in the last transfer window. He is due to spend the whole season with SWFC as they eye promotion from League One under the guidance of head coach Henrik Pedersen.

Gray, 18, has made six appearances for the Owls in all competitions in this campaign, four of which have come in the league, but he hasn’t scored or picked up an assist yet. The South Yorkshire outfit are sat inside the play-offs after their first seven outings.

Pope has had his say on the teenager’s future chances at Leeds United, as per BBC Sport West Yorkshire on X: “I understand the fear or the perception (that the Premier League is too big of a step up) but if you’ve got the talent and the drive, which I think Harry has, then I think there is every possibility that he comes back and is part of Leeds United going forward.”

Sheffield Wednesday won 2-0 at home against Sunderland U21s in the Jersey Mike Trophy last time out. They face Huddersfield Town away this weekend in the league.

Sheffield Wednesday loan man Harry Gray still getting to grips with life at Hillsborough

Sheffield Wednesday landed Gray over the summer to bolster their attacking department. He gives SWFC more competition and depth at the top end of the pitch.

Although he hasn’t found the net yet for the Owls, he is a bright talent who is being tipped for big things down the line. Once he gets a goal, he should be able to hit the ground running at Hillsborough.

Gray has been on the books at Leeds United for his whole career to date. He has risen up through their academy and has been a regular at various different youth levels for the West Yorkshire club.

The England youth international has played once competitively for the Whites so far in his career. He was shipped out to Rotherham United last term and fired three goals in 20 outings for the Millers altogether.

The Verdict: Sheffield Wednesday loanee Harry Gray can still have big Leeds United future

Gray is still very young and as Pope has alluded to, he can still play a key role for Leeds United over the coming years. He was loaned out to Sheffield Wednesday to get some more experience and to boost his development.

He will be learning a lot with the Owls and will only get better as the season goes on. Their fans need to be patient with him as he continues to find his feet in a new environment.

Pedersen’s side have adapted well to life in the third tier and have a game in hand on the teams above them. They will be in for a tough test at Huddersfield Town though on Saturday and they will need to be at their best to get something against the Terriers.
