Jack Wilshere has said he enjoyed his time at West Ham under David Moyes but ‘knew’ he wouldn’t get much game time.
West Ham signed the former England international back in 2018. However, he struggled for fitness and opportunities during his time with WHUFC.
Wilshere, now 34, made 19 outings for the Hammers and chipped in with only goal before heading out the exit door. He is now manager of League One side Luton Town and is looking to guide the Hatters back into the Championship.
Championship Roundup
He has opened up about his time at West Ham under Moyes and has delivered his honest verdict, as per his appearance on The Overlap on YouTube: “He (Moyes) came in and I knew I wasn’t going to play. He was pretty clear with that, but actually I loved it. I loved the way he set the environment, the training sessions he put on.”
On why he didn’t play, he added: “The style, the situation the club was in. (Manuel) Pellegrini brought me in for a certain style and David Moyes came in to help the club survive. I knew my time there was probably coming to an end but he was really good with me.”
Jack Wilshere’s lack of game time at West Ham
West Ham landed Wilshere to bolster their midfield department and to inject more quality into their squad. However, he endured an injury hit spell at WHUFC.
The Stevenage-born man rose up through Arsenal’s academy and went on to play 197 games for the Gunners altogether, scoring 14 goals. He won the FA Cup twice during his days at the Emirates Stadium in 2014 and 2015 consecutively, as well as the Community Shield once.
Wilshere struggled to make an impact with the Hammers though and left in 2020. He subsequently linked up with AFC Bournemouth and played 17 matches for the Cherries under Eddie Howe.
He ended his playing days at AGF in Denmark before hanging up his boots. Wilshere has since delved into the managerial world and looks to be a bright young coach.

The Verdict: Luton Town boss Jack Wilshere can have big career as a manager
Luton Town took a gamble on Wilshere when they picked him as their replacement for Matt Bloomfield last year. He has since done a steady job at Kenilworth Road so far.
He won the EFL Trophy last term after his side beat Stockport County in the final at Wembley. The Hatters missed out on the play-offs on the final day though and are aiming to go up this time around.
Wilshere was on the radar of Leicester City over the summer but nothing materialised in the end. Luton Town could face a battle to keep hold of him down the line though with the way things are going.
They are sat in 16th place in the table after their first seven fixtures and they are five points off the top six after their 1-0 home loss to Bradford City last time out before the international break. They take on Wycombe Wanderers away this weekend.
