Selina Cerci withdraws from Germany squad

Arsenal striker Selina Cerci has withdrawn from the Germany squad for their friendlies against Japan and Australia due to a knee problem.

Cerci has only played 40 minutes for Arsenal so far this season. Germany have no need to take part in the UEFA World Cup playoffs and had friendlies lined up for this break. The DfB website says, ‘Cerci (is unavailable) due to knee problems.’

Meanwhile, Amanda Zaza reports that Smilla Holmberg sprained her foot in training with Sweden. ‘She sprained her foot during yesterday’s training session. Rehab, treatment, and further examination are on the agenda for today,” said Sweden Head of Performance Niklas Egnell. Sweden play away at Lithuania on Friday night.

Mariona Caldentey has already pulled out of Spain’s squad for their friendly double header against USA during this break. Mariona went off with a hamstring injury during Arsenal’s 4-2 defeat at Manchester City on Sunday. She is due to see a specialist this week but looks set to miss all of the next block before the next international break in late November.
