'Risky. Zero complaints': Intriguing Portsmouth verdict on Fratton Park return for £20m former…

Fratton Park academy graduate Adam Webster is set to link up with Pompey as he steps up his recovery from a serious injury.

The Fratton faithful would like to see Adam Webster return to Pompey on a permanent basis.

It comes after The News revealed the Blues are keen on giving the 31-year-old an opportunity to train with his former club as he eyes an injury comeback.

The centre-back is believed to be receptive to the chance to step up his recovery from a serious knee setback, which has seen him sidelined since July 2025.

Webster is currently a free agent after being released by Brighton at the end of last season, which brought to a close a seven-year stay following his £20m move from Bristol City in 2019.

During his successful stint at the Amex Stadium, the ex-Ipswich Town man amassed 158, with his form putting him in the England conversation during his time with the Seagulls.

The classy operator is in the final stages of his recovery from the anterior cruciate ligament issue, which he sustained during Brighton’s Spanish training camp in July 2025 and forced him to sit out the entirety of last season.

Indeed, Pompey are open to giving Webster, who rose through the ranks at Fratton Park before registering 81 outings in all competitions, the opportunity to train as he continues his rehabilitation.

And that has got supporters on social media excited over the potential of a permanent return for the centre-back - and it would be something the Fratton faithful would like to see.

@LouisRich_100: If he’s experience contributes to keeping us up there will be zero complaints.

@PompeyFlag: Said this ages ago. A Free agent who is proven. Keep him fit and he will be top notch.

@BristolianDream: If you’re expecting a relegation battle then bringing him in now until January and getting him fit for someone else might pay dividends if he plays through December and you win a few extra points. You never know he might get a taste for it and stay beyond.

@HazzaTWood96: For me I would like him back but his fitness would be a concern.

@BlueArmyAlex: He’s played 30 games in 3 seasons, is 32 in January and will probably need a month to get match fit. No doubt about his quality, but it’s another gamble in a position where we have 1 fit Championship quality player.

@mcooperargus: Bring him home.

@DanielE64141682: Please, yes it’s risky but if he can get 20-25 games out of him it’s worth it. Just happy I’m not paying the wage!

@HarvMarksy: It makes sense. Think it’ll be a while before we actually make some sort of concrete offer tho? He’ll need to prove hit fitness in training first, but there’s absolutely no doubting his ability especially at this level. Be great if we could make it work.

@MrDavishPFC: I never thought I'd see the day.

@reece_w99: Absolute no brainer if we can get him fit. How likely is that though.

@ODJchef: This is amazing I think. However, why leave it to this late? We’ve had 3 weeks to get him in.
