Coventry City boss Frank Lampard
Coventry City boss Frank Lampard has been asked about the Man City charges case
Frank Lampard has refused to comment on the seismic ruling against Manchester City, telling everyone to ‘wait and see’.
Speaking at his first press conference since Man City were found to have breached the Premier League’s financial regulations, the Coventry City boss was in no mood to add fuel to the fire.
Lampard, who played 38 games for City toward the end of his career, was asked about one of football’s biggest controversies and the ruling that his former club distorted their finances with ‘sham’ contracts for a nine year period from 2009-18.
Lampard said: "We've all seen the news, it's obviously big news, Man City are appealing. I guess my reaction is that, right?
"What can you say when an appeal is going on? I'm not inside the story, I'm outside it completely. I played for Man City a long time ago now, for one year. We'll wait and see what the result of the appeal is and onwards. I don't know the timelines at all.

Asked about the impact on the rest of the season he said: "I don't know, for Man City? I'm outside the loop. I have this job and my, not problems, but things I need to work on and I always respect a manager for whatever situation, there are a lot of things you don't know. This is obviously something we do know but they are obviously a huge football club now, a huge squad of quality players so we will see."
The 48-year-old played for City during the 2014/15 season as they finished second behind Chelsea.
Lampard is now far more concerned with keeping the Sky Blues in the Premier League and building on the 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest before the international break.
Coventry are next in action when they face Newcastle United at the CBS Arena on Monday evening.
Earlier this month City released a statement which read: "Manchester City Football Club can confirm that at 7pm on Thursday 1st October 2026 the Club lodged its comprehensive Appeal against the opinion of the Premier League Commission, in relation to the Premier League disciplinary matter.
"The Club’s firm position is that, on multiple grounds, the opinion contains clear material errors, of law, principle and fact and is unsafe.
"The Club is innocent of the accusations made by the Premier League and a comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence exists in support of all of its positions, relating to this case.
"We will continue to respect due process and are necessarily restricted in what we can say further until all proceedings are complete."
