Newcastle United injuries: Matthias Jaissle has provided a fitness update ahead of Monday’s return to Premier League action at Coventry City.
Matthias Jaissle has revealed ‘three or four’ Newcastle United players are in line to return from injury at Coventry City on Monday night, but a major blow has been confirmed.
The Magpies are set to have Joelinton and Nico Gonzalez back from injury after the pair missed the 2-1 win over Hull City. Dan Burn is also close to a return but wasn’t named by the Newcastle head coach.
The match sees Newcastle return after a three-week international break. While the majority of United’s internationals returned with a clean bill of health, Jaissle confirmed one major blow for goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen.

Major injury blow confirmed
As reported by The Gazette, Jaouen withdrew from the France Under-21s squad after picking up a hamstring injury in training. He then had an MRI scan which confirmed surgery would be required to rectify the issue.
The young goalkeeper will now spend the next ‘couple of months’ on the sidelines recovering. Nick Pope will remain as back-up goalkeeper to Lukas Hornicek in Jaouen’s absence.
Lewis Miley withdrew from the England Under-21s squad due to a knock but it is not thought to be serious.
“They [the internationals] returned but not everyone was in,” Jaissle said. “I allowed some of them an extra day [off] so on Friday we’re fully back.
“The injury situation, you already get the updates and we are, in general, pleased. Ewen was a difficult one with the hamstring, he will be out for a couple of months but the rest should be okay.”
‘Three, four players’ ready to return
Newcastle vice-captain Joelinton is on the verge of making his first appearance of the season.
And when asked who could return for the Coventry match, Jaissle added: “For now we hope that three, four players are ready to be in the squad.
“I think Joe you saw already when you had the possibility to watch the training session last week, he was partially involved there, he's now progressing, he's doing better and better, this is something I can tell you because you saw it, but also one or the other are coming back definitely.
“This is helpful for sure but we need to be smart as well in the load management; they have the potential to be in the squad but for sure not in the starting 11.”
