The News revealed yesterday Pompey are receptive to Webster returning to the outfit he left a decade ago, before going on to establish himself as a Premier League operator.
The 31-year-old is nearing his return from an anterior cruciate ligament injury which kept him out last season, before leaving the Seagulls after seven years in the summer.

Webster, who has also reportedly attracted interest from Sheffield United and West Ham, is receptive to the prospect of building his return at Pompey.
And Mousinho has indicated that is something the club are prepared to explore.
He said: ‘If the opportunity comes where there’s a question over whether he (Webster) can come and train, that’s something we’d definitely look at.
‘We wouldn’t shut that off, especially if it’s a player of such high calibre. There’s nothing with that at the moment, though.’
The prospect of Webster training at the club he left a decade ago, comes against the backdrop of continuing questions over the fitness of Pompey’s defensive options.
Benjy Arthur is out for months with a back stress fracture, while Conor Shaughnessy suffered a groin issue against Blackburn Rovers before the international break.
That leaves Madiodio Dia and Regan Poole as the fit centre-back options at present, ahead of the south-coast derby with Southampton on Sunday.

Pompey have three spaces available in their 25-man squad at present, but those berths are earmarked for sidelined trio Connor Ogilvie, Josh Murphy and Keshi Anderson.
Mousinho added: ‘Where we are with squad space is we have three squad spaces and we do plan to fill the three squad spots with the lads we’ve got coming back from injury.
‘At the minute we’re monitoring what that looks like, but there’s nothing specific that we’ve done on that front.
‘That’s the intention (for the three injured players to fill the spaces), that’s been the intention from the start.
‘The reason we didn’t was you if one of those players came back, trained tomorrow and had a significant injury or couldn’t come back, it’s a space we could keep open.
‘So there’s no point doing that until they are ready to play a part.’
