Illan Meslier made his thoughts on Leeds United clear after joining Arsenal by penning an emotional message about his time with the club. The 26-year-old goalkeeper spent seven years at Leeds, making 215 appearances before the expiry of his contract in the summer.
Meslier, having become Daniel Farke’s third-choice keeper, opted to see out his deal and joined the Gunners as a free agent in July. Aside from pre-season, Meslier is yet to feature for the Premier League champions across any competition so far this term.
He is therefore very unlikely to feature when he is reunited with Leeds on Saturday afternoon, as the Whites travel to the Emirates Stadium to face Mikel Arteta’s side in the first game following the international break. Nevertheless, he is expected to receive a warm reception from the travelling Leeds faithful if his name is called out as a substitute before the game.
That’s thanks to his long service to the club, having made his Leeds debut in a third round FA Cup tie against Arsenal at the Emirates back in 2020, before helping them clinch two promotions. He also looked back fondly at his time at Elland Road after his departure was confirmed in the summer, and his lasting connection with the city, club and fans was clear to see.

Meslier took to instagram to share several pictures along with the caption: "I just wanted to take a moment to send this farewell message to every single Leeds United fan. When I arrived at this club in 2019 as a 19-year-old kid, I had no idea what was ahead of me.
"What I found was a club like no other, a fanbase with a passion that is truly unmatched, and a place that has shaped me into the goalkeeper and the man I am today.
"I would like to thank all the coaching staff, medical staff and players who have been part of this journey. And also the people at the stadium and the training ground who have been amazing with me from day one to the last day.
"After seven years, the time has come to take on a new challenge and step into a new chapter of my career. Leeds will never leave me. This city, this club, this shirt; it's part of who I am now and always will be.
"Thank you for everything. Marching On Together, always."
